It’s been a long week, it’s hot outside, for a lot of us it’s muggy and the thought of reading (or writing) an in depth blog post on the dynamics of EEOC isn’t really crossing our mind.   So, starting this week, we are going to feature something cool, innovative, fun, compassionate or just interesting about why we love the Human Resource profession.

First up – #HireFriday.

For those HR & Recruiting professionals that participate in the social networking/microblogging site Twitter, a common staple for as long as I can remember was a Friday Tradition #FollowFriday or #FF.  It was a way for existing Twitter members to post a few names as a suggestion to their other “followers” on who they should also follow.

One of our more innovative (and arguably loud) voices on social media of late has been Margo Rose (@HRMargo) who has a place in her heart for people looking for work.  She decided if #FF had been so successful across the country – how could she convert that into a solution that would help the unemployed – and #HireFriday was born.

In her own words “HireFriday is a special place where we can shower job seekers around the world with attention, extol their virtues, bolster their self-worth, and let them know that we care about their transition.”

And the process is simple – a jobseeker sends a “tweet” or message with their desired job title/industry preference/location/descriptive & a link to their online resume or linkedin profile then follows it up w/a #hirefriday hashtag.  That simple 140 character message gets put into the stream of 1000′s of recruiters across the country and the results speak for themselves.

Since starting this earlier this year there have been more than 50 interviews and more than 20 hires through this although the actually numbers could be much higher based on the referral network that has been built!

With results like that in a job market the way it is – its easy to see the overwhelming support of an HR community dedicated to making a difference the best way they know how – helping people get hired.  That is why they were our very first featured post on HRM Direct’s “Why we Love HR” Friday.
